The Pendleton Cup Dodgeball Challenge’s conclusion didn’t really have the outcome most people expected. But we probably should’ve seen it coming.
First Maintenance Battalion’s RMC Sweethearts, who rolled through three different preliminary dodgeball events earlier this year, claimed the All-Base title on Feb. 25, taking down the team everyone expected to repeat as champions, 9th Communications Battalion.
In all, nine units participated in the fourth annual event at the Paige Fieldhouse and each one brought a high level of intensity.
“We might not have had as many teams as we have had in past tournaments, but the teams that did played quality dodgeball,” said Phil Bryant, sports coordinator for Marine Corps Community Services.
